How I made felt art garment HEAVEN WATER

Cosmic side of the garment, which I have called SKY WATER. View from the beginning of its creation.
WATER

It all started with one intention - to recreate that amazing substance that builds everything on earth!
Yes, even the Earth itself!
70% of our incredibly beautiful home is water! Did not you know!?
So this princess is shining blue dress with gold and white, to which we all hold our breath, seeing her pictures from space!

Other side of the garment, inspired of  water on Earth. View from the beginning of its creation.
Where did the water come to earth?
What information has brought it?
Does it keep the Divine Word that was in the Beginning?
Did she keep our relationship with God?
Or it is simply amazing building blocks of our bodies?

THE DANCE OF THE WATER - the primary building element of everything that exists on our beautiful planet Earth!
On this side of the garment I have depicted the rhythm of the water, its eternal movement, fluidity and beauty.

CREATION

I wanted this garment to have two original and unique faces.
The first one expresses cosmic world and magic sky above us (you can see it on the 1st picture).
I choose royal blue, using superfine merino wool 18 microns.
I placed first layer of wool using technique kobweb.
Then, following my vision, I placed the various inclusions of other beautiful and expensive materials such as natural hand spun coarse silk fibers, superfine cotton lace, small silk clothes, fine merino yarn and dyed mulberry silk fibers in yellow-gold color.
After that, creating the second side of the garment, I started to cover all again with superfine merino wool in royal blue, sky blue, mint, turquoise, white.
The design I have depicted the rhythm of the water, its eternal movement, fluidity and beauty.

In the begining of felting process.
The size was remarkable - about 3 meters of 1.50 meters (118 inches to 59 inches)!
Dipped in soapy water and began the process of felting.
You probably know that after felting the initial size decreased an average of 30% - 40% and for fine merino wool when it is between 40% and 50%. This shrinkage is the main sign of good felting and strong, durable fabric - main requirement to call a fabric felt!
In fact, great skill when felt is precisely to get airy fabric or product, but it to be hard, good felted and does not change its shape and form on simple hand wash to 30 degrees Celsius, what is required for wool and woolen products.

The holes for the arms I cut at the end and felt croppings finally again. This holes are moon shaped.

Me with my Sky Water

THE RESULT

Several days work, desire and a lot of love! And the result is a wonderful!

Sizes:

Widht in upper part: 175 cm (68,9 inches) approx.,
widht in middle part: 150 cm (59,1 inches) approx.,
widht in bottom part is 185 cm (72,8 inches) approximately.
Hieght: 120 cm in the sides (47,2 inches),

100 cm (39,4 inches) in the middle part.

This blue color on this side is much darker than the other side, but it is very difficult to convey on a picture!

On the back light

Actual colors are much more vivid, saturated, beautiful, and the structure is much more pronounced, especially in the darker side!

Note:
This delicate garment is made with the cobweb felt technique, making it more fine and transparent with an interesting bumpy structure, small holes and thinning areas. However, the structure is strong as it need to be and beautiful. This is typical of cobweb felt technique and gives the finished works airiness, lightness and uniqueness. This are features, not a defects of the fabric.

Uneven edges of the garment naturally come in felting process. I have left them, because I like them. They show that this product is the result of individual work and attention and is handmade.
Thus the cloth has nice organic feel.
